2018 Course Faculty

Michael J. Tuite, MD, FACR, Professor, Dept of Radiology, University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine 


Dr. Tuite joined the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics as a Musculoskeletal Radiology Fellow in 1992 and joined the faculty in         1993.  In 1995 he became Medical Director of the Outpatient Radiology and General Imaging, in 1997 Continuing Medical Education Course Director  for the UW Radiology Practical Imaging and Intervention Conference, and in 2004 he became Chief of the Musculoskeletal           Radiology Section.  He has earned the Outstanding Teacher Award, the Picker-Association of University Radiologist's Academic Faculty   Development Award, and  the NCAA Best Poster Award on Student-Athlete Wellbeing. He serves on seven Department of Radiology committees. 

  Dr. Tuite serves on the editorial boards of Skeletal Radiology and the American Journal of Radiology and on six national committees. He is a scientific journal reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology, Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, Skeletal Radiology, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research and Radiology Case Reports. He has published 48 journal articles, 3 book chapters, 1 web article, and 1 book. He has been guest editor on 3 books and done 2 book reviews. 

Dr. Tuite's research interests include shoulder imaging, MR of sports injuries, and musculoskeletal interventional radiology. He has made 70 national and international presentations of his research and multiple regional and local presentations. He has made six Continuing Medical Education videos, has been invited to moderate nine scientific sessions at national and international meetings, and has 22 abstracts.

Marnix van Holsbeeck, MD, Professor, Wayne State University, School of Medicine


He currently serves as the Director of the Section of Musculoskeletal Radiology in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He is also the Director of Radiology for the Bone and Joint Center in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital.

Dr Van Holsbeeck’s clinical and research interest is musculoskeletal ultrasound. He serves as primary diagnostic consultant for numerous professional sports teams including the Detroit Tigers, Redwings, and Lions. He has investigated the use of dynamic ultrasonography to detect sports hernia injuries and is the primary investigator for an ongoing, collaborative research project with the United States Olympic Committee and Henry Ford Hospital, which is evaluating the use of ultrasound to diagnose sports injuries in female hockey players. He is also a consultant for NASA in the Bio-astronautics division, which involves teaching ultrasound to the astronaut and cosmonaut crews of the International Space Station to use for medical emergencies. This work has been modified for use on the Earth where his team supports the on-site care of professional sports teams and United States Olympic Committee athletes as well as the Winter Olympic Games.

Dr. Van Holsbeeck has been elected to numerous professional organizations and national positions including the Radiologic Society of North America, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, International Skeletal Society, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society, and the Society of Skeletal Radiologists.

Dr. Van Holsbeeck has received numerous teaching and professional awards including the Presidents Medal of the International Skeletal Society and the Belgian Radiologic Society. He serves as a reviewer for numerous medical journals and on the editorial board for Ultrasound Quarterly and the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound. He has written over 60 peer-reviewed articles, edited a leading textbook, “Musculoskeletal Ultrasound”.
